Thanks to everyone who visited the GSI/FAIR booth at the #openhouse of the BMFTR!

Visitors explored our research, tried our #particleaccelerator game, took a virtual trip to Darmstadt, and joined our “The Universe in the Lab” lecture. We were also delighted to welcome Minister of Research Dorothee Bär, ESA astronauts Alexander Gerst and Matthias Maurer, and sea ice physicist Dr. Stefanie Arndt.

🧲 No cranes in sight anymore at the FAIR construction site but a lot is happening inside the buildings!

The first two Super-FRS (Superconducting Fragment Separator) quadrupoles recently arrived at GSI/FAIR. The 25-ton magnets have traveled all the way from New Zealand and are now awaiting their final installation.

Stay tuned for more!

💫 New component moves into FAIR! The GLAD #vacuumchamber is the first major component installed for NUSTAR and it’s a central element of the R3B (Reactions with Relativistic Radioactive Beams) experiment.

🔩 GLAD weighs around 15 tons, so transporting it required careful planning and precise execution. Congratulations to the team on a job well done!

NUSTAR installs first major component at FAIR: GLAD vacuum chamber successfully placed in High-Energy Cave

At the FAIR construction site, the NUSTAR collaboration has reached an important milestone: The GLAD vacuum chamber – the first major component of the NUSTAR experimental setup – was successfully transported to the NUSTAR High-Energy Cave.

💫 How many magnets of the SIS100 ring accelerator are already down in the tunnel? Look closely and write your guess in the comments! Here you can see what’s currently happening in the construction of our FAIR particle accelerator – both outside and inside the individual buildings.

👨‍🔬 Moritz works as an Educational Scientific #Outreach Officer at our #particleaccelerator GSI/FAIR. Among other things, he is responsible for developing educational programs for #students and explaining our research in a simple and understandable way. That makes him a bridge between us and the public.

His biggest project yet – #SCIENCEPOPUP in downtown Darmstadt – has been a big hit for all ages.

🌟 Is it possible to create a tiny supernova on Earth? Almost! With the FAIR particle accelerator, we create cosmic matter in the lab and by that pave the way for tomorrow’s technologies 🛸
