Issam Makhoul’s Writings Now on Marxists.org

Palestinian communist leader Issam Makhoul (عصام مخول, 1952-2025) now has his collected works archived in #Hebrew on Marxists.org—articles, speeches, and interviews from five decades of anti-colonial struggle.

[…] My conclusion is that the anti-racist movement in Israel, in which we operate, must struggle without hesitation against both Kahanism and the official racist policy based on Zionist ideology. This does not mean that everyone who defines themselves as a Zionist is a racist. Many Zionists work alongside us in various democratic struggles. The task of principled anti-racists is to expose the contradiction between Zionism and democracy through uncompromising ideological debate.

Makhoul served as Hadash MK (1999-2006), chaired the Communist Party of Israel and Emil Touma Institute, survived a 2003 assassination attempt by Jewish extremists, and was the first Knesset member to publicly challenge Israel’s nuclear weapons program.

Two months before his death in December, he called proposals to end the Gaza genocide “continuation of the war of annihilation.”

1. #Anarchism has a #zionism problem, a #western problem, and an #AntiIndigenous #racism problem. It always has, and it's embedded across #anarchist #theory and #history. It's a legitimate #criticism and a reason more people don't embrace it.

2. There are many anarchists who are #AntiZionist, outside the West, and Indigenous. They're making important contributions to anarchism. There are anarchists in the #PalestinianResistance, and we can all #learn from them.
