I mis-spent a year at Brown University, helping with a system that unfortunately dumbed down the idea of hypertext. This is the script I wrote for what would...

@marick The first time I read Nabokov’s #PaleFire, I decided to follow all of the links, depth first. I had to use six or seven numbered bookmarks to mark my place!

Since I was busy with other studies and CS, I read mainly late at night, but when I got sleepy, it took so much time to carefully review my bookmarks that I was wide awake again!

This is incredible, and crazy, and awe inspiring. Kathryn Haydon recites the whole poem from Nabokov's novel Pale Fire from memory.

I know I really should be better than being suckered into the ‘utterly subservient & loyal & ridiculously beautiful sad-smiling virtual women’ tropes that are being played with (or perhaps even exploited) in #bladerunner2049 but then they cast #AnadeArmas as Joi and have her bring out #Nabokov ‘s #PaleFire & offer to read it out loud and, well, um…

I find it wise in such cases as this to eliminate the bother of back-and-forth leafings by either cutting out and clipping together the pages with the text of the thing, or, even more simply, purchasing two copies of the same work which can then be placed in adjacent positions on a comfortable table

这本之前就开始读了,今天又翻到这句,震惊地发现我确实买了两本,一本实体一本电子版。作者的营销手段不错的。

I like #ChallengingBooks, #2666, #PaleFire, #Ulysses, #InfiniteJest, etc, but #amreading #GravitysRainbow and i'm not impressed so far. Has it just dated badly? Has anyone read it recently? I hardly ever not finish a book, but 600 more pages of this is going to be rough. #books #bookstodon
