Japan's record-low birth rate and shrinking population underscore a long-standing societal challenge that the country has yet to address effectively despite growing urgency. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/editorials/2026/06/05/japans-demographic-future/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #editorials #ministryofhealthlaborandwelfare #southkorea #china #europe #familyplanning #parenthood #children #population #depopulation
A bleak prognosis for Japan’s demographic future

The most recent government statistics show fertility rates hitting record lows — again.

India’s surprise baby bust is a warning to the world

It is not just rich places that are becoming less fertile

The Economist

As human fertility continues to plummet thanks to PFAs, microplastics, and nanoplastics (along with climate change), the human population of Earth will likewise crash.

The ruling class has decided that this will benefit them. It will not. The major die-off that we're facing will NOT be controllable. The odds are very high that it will end in extinction if we don't take unprecedented action to avert it.

In any case there will be huge societal change. Could be fertile women will be basically used as breeding tanks, Axlotl-style. Or we could see a Handmaid's Tale scenario. Abortion will probably no longer be an issue. And children will probably be viewed as infinitely precious, or as objects to be fought over—maybe both.

Really? With a #global #human #population of over 9 billion by 2050? That is UTTER BULLSHIT! Again, see my: https://osf.io/preprints/socarxiv/wef2n_v1. Improbable assumptions don't add up to reality, & the more of them there are, the more improbable they become!

Get ready, Calgary: after the rain, come the mosquitoes
Until recently, the relatively dry spring has meant Calgarians have been swatting away fewer mosquitoes than normal this time of year. That’s likely to change after rain drenched the city for several days.
