"Taking #population sizes into account, the trend line through the #data points shows that there is there’s a strong, clear #negative #correlation between Trump-leaning #orientation & low #life #expectancy at the #State #level. Deep red #states like #Alabama & #WestVirginia have #lifeexpectancy comparable to, say, #Kazakhstan."

'Rather than trying to “fix” falling #birthrates, #policymakers should prepare for an #older #population – from rethinking how #oldage support is funded, to enabling people to remain in #work for longer. “Simply telling people to have more #babies is unlikely to work,” said CPC-CG member Dr Bernice Kuang' (Department of #SocialStatistics and #Demography at the University of #Southampton), who spoke with #TheGuardian last week about the latest #ONS #PopulationProjections.

The tipping point: what happens when deaths outnumber births?

The social and economic impact of people living longer and having fewer babies is hitting countries worldwide. Adaptation is key

#Population is not the problem in the fight for the climate. But populations of this size all living "modern" lifestyles IS the problem. As nations "#develop" they tend to become bigger and bigger #consumers. At https://TheDevelopmentGap.org, we question what that word even means.

I've seen lots of turkeys in #stpaul but mostly around Summit Hill a few blocks from Dale and Selby. They've moved closer to us, now -- this at Saint Clair and Cretin.

Personally, I would take more turkeys for fewer rabbits. The rabbit population around here is just bonkers. When I do my morning walks, most yards will have one to three rabbits just sitting there. You see them all day, too.
Writing that, it makes me think we could use some urban foxes. Years back there was a family of foxes whose den was literally under the State Capitol in Madison -- foxes can and do live in urban areas.

...which makes me wonder: why don't you see more of them? It seems like basic predator-prey population dynamics. Think of the classic Lotke-Volterra model. A few foxes could make their way into the urban area here, feast like kings, and reproduce like...er...rabbits.

#Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
The 2001 Mayor’s Transport Strategy set out plans to tackle worsening congestion, unreliable public transport and years of underinvestment that threatened London’s #economy and quality of life. It highlighted slow #traffic speeds, overcrowded #Underground and rail services, and rising demand from a growing #population. The strategy proposed an integrated system under Transport for London, supported by stronger leadership and increased funding. Key measures included congestion charging, major rail projects such as Crossrail and Thameslink, expanded bus services and improved reliability. It promoted walking and cycling, aimed to boost capacity by up to 50% over 15 years, and prioritised #accessibility and social #inclusion. #Environmental goals focused on reducing emissions and improving air quality, with delivery dependent on long-term investment and partnership working.
