Kommt vorbei. Wir freuen und über Austausch und Feedback!

At #CoRDI2025, we saw how #PIDs make research more visible and #FAIR. At our poster, we spoke with many members of the #RDM community about the relevance of PIDs and the interoperability of #metadata for sustainable #OpenScience in Germany.

The poster is now also available on Zenodo! 🥳

👀 Have you already seen it? The @PIDNetworkDE is organizing another workshop on #PIDs for academic events in Hannover on 07.05.2025.

There will be an exciting program from the perspective of different stakeholders. The presentations will also be broadcast online, but we always enjoy to meet you and exchange on-site.

📢 Check out our new PID icons!

We've created a set of icons to visually represent Persistent Identifiers (#PIDs) and their use cases—from datasets and software to researchers and grants!

💫 Improving data discoverability, facilitating visual analysis, and promoting a more unified understanding of research information.

➡️ Check out the full collection and and carry it into the world!

Icons for 10 PID Use Cases

Within the DFG-funded PID Network Deutschland project, a set of icons was designed to create a consistent visual language for representing different research entities – such as datasets, publications, researchers, and institutions – thereby improving data discoverability, facilitating visual analysis, and promoting a more unified understanding of research information. This ZIP-file contains ten icons for the following use cases of persistent identifiers (PIDs): Research data Instruments Cultural objects Organisations & projects Persons Physical objects Publication services & CRIS Software Text prublications Academic events The icons are in four different colors and sizes: Black 30*25 mm White 30*25 mm Black 20*16 mm White 20*16 mm The image format is PND with transparent background.   Additonally the icons are provided in SVG format, both in black and white.

Together with my colleague Andreas Czerniak, I will report on the progress of the PID Network Germany project at the ROR community meeting on February, 5th.
We are looking forward to it!

PIDs for physical objects

The use of persistent identifiers (PIDs) is an essential component of an open scientific landscape in the digital age. They improve the findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability (FAIR) of various research-related objects and allow the scientific process to become more transparent and interconnected. The adoption of PIDs for physical objects such as different types of samples or artefacts has so far been common practice mostly in the earth and life sciences. Broader...
