Running my own Mastodon instance was now too costly and isolated for me and I therefore moved from [email protected] to [email protected]. I did the same with my German account, which is now [email protected].

Small instances have significant disadvantages in my opinion and therefore I do the other extreme and move to the largest instance. Then I finally get to see everything :).

#mastodon implements full-text search with ElasticSearch which requires a lot of RAM. I run a local instance for a single user, so I wanted to be able to search from the database instead.

I now have a working implementation for that feature.
It still needs testing, but if any #OwnInstance #admin is interested, I can share the code (it's not on GitHub as I don't use it, but I can put a patch on the Web with instructions on how to apply it).

After a few days of thinking about running my own instance I came to the conclusion: "screw it, at worse I'll stay here where I currently am" (which is still great thou!)
So I bought a cheap VPS, and I'm starting to play with it.
