I didn't have much luck asking for Bollywood film recommendations here, but I found a few that looked interesting nonetheless. We watched the first one at the weekend — Lagaan, from the early 2000s.
A somewhat predictable narrative but that was the point – we know what's going to
happen and we just enjoy the (long) ride.
It's about Indian villagers getting one up on the British in colonial times. Which is probably recommendation enough.
I loved the slower pace of the narrative and the long musical sections, of which there were only four or five.
The songs and choreographed musical set pieces are wonderful. Turns out Asha Bosle was one of the singers too.
Next up, a classic from 1960.
Enjoy this brilliant essay by Greg Olear on "Heart of Darkness", by Joseph Conrad, and the beautifully nuanced reflex to the now.
I started reading with my defenses for Conrad on full, and I was surprised and happy that did not need them.

I'm realizing that my frustration about YouTube disabling recommendations for users without watch history is more rooted in the removal of a dopamine hit rather than true annoyance.
I've still got my subscriptions that I watch regularly, but I am keen to find some more!

Gyeongseong Creature ~ Staffel 2
Definitiv schwächer als die 1. Staffel, aber dennoch ganz interessant. Anderes Flair in der "Neuzeit", als in den 1940ern. Mir bisschen zu viel Geschnulze, war aber noch okay. Mal sehen, ob's irgendwann weitergeht.
