Don RayOn the #DailyWalk, a large owl flew out from a red cedar tree. In my area, the two large owls are the Great Horned and the Barred. The way the wings are shaped makes me think it's a Barred Owl. (Not the greatest photo, but I was glad to get it.)

Coreyartus ImageryThis is a Stygian Owl, dressed up and surrounded by an Art Nouveau-esque filigree frame. It was suggested that I do a "Vampire Owl" by a friend who popped into my street fair booth during Friday Night Markets this last summer.
His name was Devon, and he was a fisherman, hired to help with the catch on a local fishing boat. But when I met him he was looking for a new job, either as a bar back or (someday) as a tattoo artist. He was impressed with my Ravens at first, suggesting I do one in purple. I did. And when he saw it, he felt I'd made a great version of a specific species of owl for Halloween. He said their eyes glowed red in the dark.
What I found was a Stygian Owl, from Central and South America. They're known for their ear tufts looking like horns, and their eyes do indeed glow red when light is reflected in them.
So I drew this, and sold a couple for Halloween. His suggestion was a good one.

SalamandarThere is an owl that lives nearby. I've seen it a few times, always in fleeting motion or as a barely visible silhouette in the darkness.
Last night it swooped in and decided to just hang out with us. It was very interested in my dog (who is much too large to be owl prey).
