Echo is the tragic counterpart of Narcissus, condemned to be silent unless spoken to & only able to repeat the words of others. The myth shows that most of our listening is repeating.

Heute würden im römischen Reich die „Parilia“ begangen, ein Hirtenfest zu Ehren der Gottheit Pales, bei denen die Vieherden rituell „gereinigt“ wurden: Eine ausführliche Beschreibung findet sich in Ovids „Fasti“.
Der 21. Apil war jedoch auch der Sage nach der Gründungstag der Stadt Rom und wurde deshalb als „dies natalis urbis“ (Geburtstag) gefeiert.
