The License Update: A Human Moment in the Machine
I called the board yesterday for the status update I’ve been dreading/hoping for. The initial news was devastating: I was informed that following the education review, I would typically have to wait until the next board meeting on January 6th for a determination.
I’ll be honest: I broke. I sobbed on the line. The weight of that date—another month of limbo—was just too much.
But because of that vulnerability, the evaluator paused. She offered to try to speed the process up. She is going to attempt to get the board members' approval individually ahead of the meeting. The system wanted to make me wait, but the human on the other end is trying to build a bridge. Now, we wait to see if the board members agree.
The Wins: Concrete Poured While the license hangs in the balance, your support has helped me pour the concrete for the rest of my life here.
Emergency SNAP: APPROVED. This is a massive weight off my shoulders. I now know I will have food.
PA Driver’s License: Finalized. I am officially a resident.
Medical Card: Paid for and active. This is my legal shield for employment drug screenings.
The Reality: The "Overqualified" Trap Financially, I crashed hard on Wednesday. While a few kind souls helped stave off the worst, I am still in the red for non-food essentials. I have been applying for "survival jobs" outside my field, but I keep hitting the wall of being "overqualified." The world won't let me work as a cashier because I'm a therapist, but the state won't let me work as a therapist until the paperwork clears.
Even the laundromat is a trap—I finally got my clothes, but that $25 "hold" didn't come back; it just turned into "laundry wallet credits," locking my liquid cash into their system.
The Ask I am asking for help to survive the gap between now and whenever the board members sign that paper. SNAP has secured my pantry, but I need help to keep the lights on and the phone active while the evaluator advocates for me.
Thank you for holding the line with me. We are so close.
