The American Dream, der verspricht, dass du es nach ganz oben schaffen kannst, wenn du nur hart genug arbeitest. Um diesen Traum geht es in "Gratisessen für Millionäre" von Min Jin Lee, übersetzt von Andrea Fischer, erschienen bei dtv.

Casey ist die Tochter koreanischer Einwanderer, die nach ihrem Princeton-Abschluss keinen Arbeitsvertrag in der Tasche hat und sich daraufhin mit ihren Eltern überwirft und auf sich allein gestellt ist. Wir begleiten Casey auf ihrem Weg, der mit einigen Stolpersteinen überrascht und dieses System zeigt, wie hart dieser Weg ist und auch die Frage stellt, ob das überhaupt Sinn macht.

Es geht um Rassismus, Sexismus und eine Reise zurück in die 90er (ihr wisst, diese Zeit, in der wir noch nicht 24/7 erreichbar waren). Ein Buch, das ich mir auch gut als Netflix-Serie vorstellen kann und eine gute Urlaubsbegleitung ist.

He's right. #TheAmericandream is to be pd a fair, livable wage for a day's work, to be able to keep a roof over ur head, food on the table, have access to affordable hcare & a good education w/opportunities for everyone, having the right to vote, to love who u love, identify how u identify, & the right to bodily autonomy. It's being able to breath clean air & drink clean water. It's being able to practice any/no religion & not be shot at the movies or wherever.
