The Week That Broke Us 😮‍💨 | 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks – Week 9

Week 9 was supposed to be the home stretch… but instead it hit like a brick.
This was the week of every tiny, annoying, fiddly job that had been waiting for attention — and the week we dove headfirst into the most soul-destroying task of all: rubbering the observatories.

Hours of cold, sticky, repetitive misery.
Monotonous. Dreary. Painful.
A true test of patience, sanity, and lower-back durability.

Rubbering meant pushing 12 mm round rubber into the small cavity of the 40×40 aluminium — inch by inch, joint by joint, across every single observatory. It was tedious, physically brutal, and somehow both infuriating and necessary.

But we pushed through. Bit by bit, joint by joint, we knocked down the last of the little tasks and inched the entire site toward completion.

It wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t fun.
But it was necessary — and it brought us one week closer to the finish line.

Blown Away 💨 | 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks – Week 8

Week 8 came in swinging — and the wind did not hold back.
The marquee? Gone.
The tents? Nearly airborne.
John? Almost lost his dirty dishes to the gale.

Between hanging onto everything that wasn’t bolted down and trying to keep our sanity, we still managed to get the last two roofs on and tick off nearly all the fiddly bits that had been holding us up.

It was chaos, comedy, and construction all rolled into one windy finale.
Only two weeks left — and the observatory field is finally starting to look ready for the stars.

Observatory Overdrive 🚀 | Week 7

Two more roll-off roof observatories, drills, ladders, late nights, and two perfect moonless skies — then a roaring windstorm. The field is finally taking shape: stars above, chaos below.

The Great T-Nut Shortage 🪛 | 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks – Week 6

Week 6 at Starview Farm was pure build chaos — we cranked out the last four base frames, clad them, and finally got roofs on the four observatories that had been waiting way too long for cover.

It was all going smoothly… until we hit The Great T-Nut Shortage of 2025.
Progress screeched, bolts dangled, and we questioned every hardware store within a 100 km radius.

Between clear, moonless nights and endless steel connector plates, we somehow kept the momentum going — proving once again that sleep is optional, but T-Nuts are not.

Rain Delay? Nope 🌧️ | 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks – Week 3

🌩️ Week 3 didn’t just test the schedule — it tried to wipe it off the map.

Instead of slowing down, we tripled up and hit Observatory 3,4 and 5 of the 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks challenge… during sideways rain, hail, and winds that could relocate a roof without permission.

This week featured:

Roll-off roof frames fighting for their lives
Hail bouncing off steel like popcorn in a microwave
Mud trying to claim my boots permanently
And zero chance of waiting for “better weather”

If you enjoy chaotic commitment, astronomy builds in hostile environments, or watching projects happen purely out of spite toward the sky — you're in the right place.

Rain Delay? Nope 🌧️ | 10 Observatories in 10 Weeks – Week 3

It appears freezing weather is finally over but it has been oh, so rainy! Daily rains have dumped about 2 inches of rain on our grounds and every step on the grass produces a squishy sound, even the occasional splash. If we get a series of non-freezing days and dry weather, the paver platform for the observatory can finally be finished. Until then, we wait and literally watch the grass growing — ground’s too wet for us to run mowers on! #weather #construction #observatory #observatorybuild
