A tiny painting of Nuliajuk I was working on in 2020. I lost it when everything got shut down during lockdown. I didn't realize this would be my last time china painting. #ChinaPainting #Nuliajuk #Sedna #PorcelainPainting #IndigenousCreatives
An interesting story about the first arrival of the British to farthest northern Greenland in 1818. The Inughuit had foretold this visit. https://nunatsiaq.com/stories/article/the-return-of-the-dog-children-parry-and-lyon-at-igloolik/ #Inuit #Inughuit #Greenland #NorthwestPassage #history #Arctic #Nuliajuk #Sedna

NonBinary Review Issue #36: Heredity — Zoetic Press

My essay “The Silent Madness of Whales” was published last year on About Place Journal. “When I was a little girl, I liked to walk down to the landwash to see the bodies of pothead whales. In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, they often beached themselves on the shoreline of my home in Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland. My family had to keep the dogs on leashes, otherwise they would tunnel inside rotting whales and roll around. The dogs loved the smell, but we did not.” #whales #ClimateCatastrophe #ClimateChange #Inuit #Nuliajuk #Sedna #ocean #NoisePollution @indigenousauthors #PersonalEssay

The beginnings of a miniature painting of Nuliajuk I began on this date in 2020. It was my last time in the porcelain painting studio because of COVID lockdowns. I never got this back and didn’t get to complete it. I miss china painting. #ChinaPainting #PorcelainPainting #ArtistsOnMastodon #IndigenousCreatives #Sedna #Nuliajuk

Last year I was a featured artist for a project called The Beasting. Southwestern Ontario artists collaborated to make exquisite corpse artwork. My contribution was inspired by the Inuit creation story of Nuliajuk/Sedna. https://www.thebeasting.ca/pages/shantell-powell #ExquisiteCorpse #IndigenousCreatives #ArtistsOnMastodon #Indigedon #InuitArt #Nuliajuk #Sedna #InkDrawing
