Just finished The Deluge by Stephen Markley.
It is frighteningly realistic and full of interesting ideas and quotes, but ultimately ...
A collection of mostly obnoxious characters, one of whom the author is clearly enamoured with.
A failed attempt to convey the idea that we need a person larger than life to save us all (and an equally failed attempt to portray such a character).
Several story lines that are not adequately developed while others are described in so much detail they become boring.
A clear bias towards everything and anything outside US borders combined with a severe case of American exceptionalism. The idea that the US will save the planet and create social harmony all over the world is simply ludicrous, even with a lot of suspended disbelief.
