🐘🦥 For #FossilFriday: an account of a mammoth mystery. This is the Franklin Street tooth, the first of twelve specimens discovered in New Ulm, Minnesota. Found in 1912 buried in glacial drift, it is the earliest known discovery.

The society's exhibits cover various topics related to the county, including its geological formation, Native American culture, early settlement, ethnic makeup, and early industry.

#lostbones for #FossilFriday! 🐂🦥🐴🐘🐪🐟🍃 This partial mastodon pelvis was recently donated to the Brown County Historical Society in New Ulm, MN. It was found in 1987 in a gravel pit within the city limits. New Ulm borders the western bank of the glacial River Warren’s river valley, which now contains the Minnesota River.

It was discovered face down with just the backside of one horn exposed according to the Nature Center's curator. It measures 66cm (26") across the horn cores.
