Just finished this absolute banger of a horror novel by #NedBeauman writing as #KitBurgoyne. Think Patti Hearst meets Rosemary’s Baby as a group of British activists kidnap a billionaire’s daughter and get more than they bargained for. Been a big fan of Beauman since his award-winning debut ‘Boxer, Beetle’ - check out also his biodiversity apocalypse satire ‘Venomous Lumpsucker’.

Venomous Lumpsucker by Ned Beauman review – a cerebral eco-thriller

This grief-stricken yet very funny tale about the search for an endangered fish speaks to our age of mass extinctions

@ianhunt recommend #NedBeauman's 'Venomous Lumpsucker' (concept of global trade in #ExtinctionCredits no longer seems satirical)
Ned Beauman wins Arthur C Clarke award for ‘bleakly funny’ novel

The prize for the year’s best science fiction novel was given to Venomous Lumpsucker, a satire which addresses ‘humanity’s shortsighted self-interest’

The Guardian
Ned Beauman's book Venomous Lumpsucker was great. It is a page-turning thriller, yet with well-developed characters and really good at raising interesting and important issues such as why it matters if species go extinct.

It's the near future, and tens of thousands of species are going extinct every year. But the loss...
