Why were we evicted? I had to ask the new tenant to find out – and the reason cuts to the heart of the UK’s housing crisis

The Tories have betrayed renters, and Labour’s plans don’t go far enough. Here’s how they can fix our broken housing system, says Ruby Lott-Lavigna, reporter at openDemocracy

This is going to shock those communists in the #NZNationalparty but under #capitalism it's actually normal to pay people more for developing/demonstrating skills that benefit their employer.

Government keen to stop extra pay for being skilled in te reo

The new government wants to stop any more public servants getting extra pay for being skilled in te reo Māori. More than a dozen ministries and departments pay bonuses of up to $3,500 a year depending on how fluent a person is. Public Service Minister Nicola Willis concedes it can't dump the existing agreements but wants to put a halt to any future ones. She declined to come on the programme. Reporter Phil Pennington spoke to Corin Dann.

• Lower benefits = less spent at small businesses = businesses closed down = even higher #NZUnemployment
• People with jobs had those jobs taken away from them because #NZNationalParty & Treasury wanted #TaxCuts
In 1990, #NZNationalParty were elected:
• Businesses wrote laws to steal #BargainingPower from workers
• Workers were forced to fight for jobs by destroying #Workers #Unions
• National promised "real growth, more jobs, and higher pay"

The cause of #Aotearoa's #CostOfLivingCrisis is unprecedented, however we've been through financial crises before.

The #Libertarianism of the '80s was supercharged by #JimBolger's National government in 1990. Their brand of "fiscal responsibility" echoes that of #NZNationalParty/#ActParty today.
