I would rather say : semi-automatic bugs and their **sloppy operators** swing.

I experimented with a Vibroplex recently.
Not at all easy.

But have a look at the recent #N4JAW videos here : his dahs are not 10 time the normal duration !

Bad code is not inevitable.
And yes, it certainly requires time and efforts...
