French Polish … it’s always tricky. The key is to be brave, apply in single strokes and let to dry. Then on to the next coat. Once you have two or three coats on, no more sandpaper - just the courage of one’s convictions. This has had seven coats now and I am thinning the polish with methylated spirits for a smooth finish. #WoodWorking #Modelling #Miniatures #No52.

Plastic kit: "Yukumo" (ユクモ), the holy fox girl.
The character can be converted to various modes from the plain and common girl to the decorated and armed style.

Calling this guy done, now. My first Space Marine and model for my own 40K army in ~40 years. One of two Techmarines that will be attached to my Raptors Ironstorm Spearhead (hence the green and generally messy armour; adapt and overcome). I kinda went a bit over the top with chipping. I also don't care. I plan on covering the other units with scrim, ERA bricks, and all sorts. Cuz: Raptors.

@mbt3d
very cool materials.

@TripTilt @mbt3d

seconding this! are these procedural?

@dannotdaniel @TripTilt The original maps I generated procedurally and then I made one for rough diffuse and height. So yes I have a few variations of them 😂

A new year and a new post for the new year.

wait, you rendered out the procedural noise to have bitmaps and use those as pbr material? Or did you render them for demonstration purposes? There are even more variants possible when keeping it in blender...
@TripTilt @dannotdaniel Yes the first, I made them in Substance Designer.
Blender's procedural noise is fine but not as flexible for me at least.

@mbt3d @TripTilt oh interesting. So in your view Blender's noise nodes aren't as fully featured..

What type of options do you find in Substance Painter which you'd like to see in Blender (and can you sorta get there by combining different noise elements, albeit more work?)

I wonder if there are addons which cover it?

@dannotdaniel @TripTilt I can't really say I used Substance Designer for many years and got familiar with it, I don't have the Adobe versions just the original ones.
I guess Geometry nodes may be an option, but I haven't found them intuitive and hard to get into. I guess it is the horse you know, and all that jazz.
There are some noise genrators out there that are interesting though I can't say what I would reccomend.

@mbt3d @TripTilt oh I hadn't even thought about using geo nodes to produce a texture somehow

geo nodes is black magic - to be sure 😅
