it took me a single afternoon to set it up on my debian web server that has nothing but apache running otherwise
and i am not someone who heavily uses self-hosted solutions at all and i was able to get it going
i honestly can't sing the praises of mistserver enough as a discord replacement from the streaming angle, at least 1:1 with another person (alongside using signal for voice/video/chat)
@scarlet_somnus was streaming via obs using the whip protocol to my server from the UK (my server is sitting on my desk in minnesota) and we were consistently at less than 1 second of latency with a good quality, stable stream
So I was involved in the technical bits of a livestream last night. For those interested I ran a cloud based streaming server (Mist Server) to accept an SRT stream because the internet connection there is terrible, and then forwarded that stream to youtube....
