Great_Albums#GreatAlbums1990s - #BillyBragg & #Wilco - #MermaidAvenue (1998). A found clutch of #WoodyGuthrie lyrics provided grist for a vivid reimagining of Guthrie's work -- strengthened by its refusal to sound all hayseedy and old-timey. "California Stars," "Ingrid Bergman" and other gems suggested Woody's talent might have flourished even without the depression dust that spurred his humor and indignation. As for Bragg/ Wilco, this disc stands with their finest work.
