2020 Castoro Cellars Trentanove
XXXIX Anniversary Blend
Bought at the winery
Paso Robles, California

$45/ 92

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tannat, Primitivo, Petite Sirah and Malbec.

14.2% ABV. Decanted for 2 1/2 hours. Served at 61º F / 16º C in Riedel Extreme Cabernet glasses. Medium purple with good clarity, fairly prominent legs.

Black cherry with a touch of sweet tobacco, dried herbs and smoke on the nose. On the palate, full-bodied and dry with baking spice and graphite, blackberry, a little herbaceousness, gravel and leather, with medium chalky tannins and acidity.

Very well-balanced with herbs and baking spice on the medium-long finish.

This is a blend they do slightly differently every year. I’d certainly buy another bottle if I happened upon it, even at the pseudo-hefty price of $45. Very nice, this is what it’s all about.

Also, the winery is a nice place to visit. Very laid back and attractive, and the servers offer you a lot of information about the winery's history and winemaker which is interesting. A recommended stop if you're in the area.

I am today years old when I learned how to properly pronounce "meritage" (mɛrɪtɪdʒ), like heritage.

Thanks Val! @GlassInSession
