L’Arsenal di Mikel Arteta ha vinto la Premier League. La frenata definitiva del Manchester City, fermato sull’1-1 dal Bournemouth, regala la matematica certezza del titolo prima dell’ultima giornata. I Gunners sono di nuovo campioni, 22 anni dopo la storica annata degli Invincibili di Arsene Wenger. Questa squadra magari non verrà ricordata come quella di allora, ma ha saputo rompere un tabù che stava diventando una maledizione. Ed è riuscita allo stesso tempo ad arrivare in finale di Champions League: al di là di come finirà contro il Psg, è arrivata in fondo alle due competizioni per club più importanti nel calcio di oggi.
I numeri raramente mentono: la squadra di Arteta ha fatto della solidità difensiva la sua forza principale ed è per distacco la miglior difesa della Premier. Er war die wohl beste Mänätscher-Entscheidung, die Max Eberl in seinem ungesund-turbulenten Berufsleben getroffen hat: Lucien Favre. Der hat nun in meinem Alter bekannt gegeben, dass er sein Berufsleben als Fussballlehrer beendet.

Favres grösste Leistungen waren zum einen in Nizza: er war der einzige Trainer, der Mario Balotelli in eine Mannschaft integrieren konnte, in der dieser an der Seite des späteren Gladbachers Alassane Pléa, Klasseleistungen und Erfolge abliefern konnte. Das waren die Jahre 2016-18, nach seinen – zum anderen – fünf Jahren in Mönchengladbach.

Dort hatte Favre aus einem schon abgestiegenen und mental toten Team einen Champions-League-Teilnehmer gemacht. Es verrät hohe menschliche und fachliche Qualitäten, wenn ein Fussballlehrer die gleichen Spieler besser macht. Es geht auch umgekehrt: sehen Sie sich nur die zahllosen schwarzen Talente in Dortmund an.

Dort wollten sie 2020 auch Favre schnellstens loswerden. Denn überraschend: er war und ist kein Ebenbild des medienklavierspielenden Jürgen Klopp (der macht bekanntlich gegen Geld “alles”). Und sind jetzt mit einem zufrieden, der Punktgewinne mit unansehnlichem Fussball abliefert. Aber ich schweife ab.

Mein Vorschlag an das Management meiner Borussia bleibt, den durch unsere Legende Hans Meyer freigemachten Platz im Präsidium mit ebendiesem Lucien Favre zu besetzen. Ich fürchte nur, der ist so klug, so ein Angebot abzulehnen. Er weiss zuviel.
