Recently moved here from @TheWoodenheaded where I landed during the Twitter exodus wave in Nov. 2022.

I live in eastern Ontario about an hour west of #ottawa

Music, books, spaniels, boating.

I play #guitar and #mandolin.

In my work life I’m an elearning instructional designer, although after 25 years my title sounds much fancier than that.

Thanks for the explanation. I've tried both on my mandolin lately (it's acoustic, no EQ). To me the string gauge makes more difference, but I think the tone of the phosphor-bronze suits my mandolin better.

I'm jealous of guitar-players, who can walk into a music store and have a wide choice of strings right on hand. The stores near me seem to think that mandolin players all want the same two gauges of one brand of strings.

"The Entertainer" is a 1902 #classicPianoRag written by #ScottJoplin. It was sold first as sheet music by #JohnStarkAndSon of #SaintLouisMissouri, and in the 1910s as #pianoRolls that would play on #playerPianos. The first recording was by #blues and #ragtime musicians "the #BlueBoys" in 1928, played on #mandolin and #guitar. As one of the classics of the ragtime genre, it returned to international prominence as part of the style revival in the 1970s.

I played two sets on the stage at the Pineridge Bluegrass Folklore Society event in Oshawa yesterday - one set vocal/mandolin, one set upright bass. Then two hours of playing with friends in one of the jam rooms. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
