Photo of the Day 21st February 2026.

Sean, lead guitarist with Scouse rockers The Idiot Rate, at a gig at Academy 3, Manchester, 25th June 2006.
I'd known Ben, the lead singer, for years, but this was the first time I saw them, and crikey, did I get some good photos.
And I even managed to blag my way backstage!
This is one of my fave photos of these guys, and this is almost exactly how it came out of the camera, all I've done is crop it slightly and slap a watermark on there.
There is an even better edit in there somewhere, but for now, I'm happy with this.

I am grateful to the London Mathematical Society and the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research for their support in the creation of a Numerical Analysis network (named not very creatively NaN) in the north of UK. The network encompasses the universities of Manchester, Strathclyde, Edinburgh and Leeds.

We are now trying to organize a one-day workshop in Manchester in January.
