How well would Linux run on a MacBook Air 2012 (Intel Core i7 2GHz (Ivy Bridge, 2 core, 4 thread), 8GB DDR3 RAM) with the goal of using a modern browser and Google Docs within it?

I am guessing this would work fairly well.

Which distro would one recommend for someone looking to do what I describe with an ease of use focus? (I am setting up this laptop for my wife to use for job search and the like while she is furloughed (and not allowed to use work laptop during.))
