Trying to be a good employee, I currently make an effort to use #MSCopilot more. Today’s first try was funny (to me).

Q: can #MuraAI extract sticky notes from a photo?
A: no, but you can use #MSLens to do that.

Q: wasn’t MS Lens discontinued?
A: yes, but you can still do it until March. Alternatively, you can use #OneDrive to scan documents.

Q: OK, can OneDrive extract sticky notes from photos?
A: no, that’s not possible.

Thank you very much for nothing. You act like a slimy sales rep.

Over the last weeks I’ve updated an infographic of mine about project management and adjacent topics. I asked #MScopilot to describe the picture and describe how it could be used in consulting and sales scenarios. The answers were OK for me. No I’m suffering an episode of #ImposterSyndrome. Do I really think I’m an expert in this area when I’m OK with the comments of an #LLM on my asset?

#MSCopilot took a full 18 seconds to "reason", then agree that it was spouting bullshit on how to disable a version of itself. I don't care if others want to summarize the doc, I just wanted ~ 1/12th of my screen back that is currently occupied by a massive "Summary By Copilot" ribbon that is useless to the person actually writing the document (I'm the author, I already know what I'm saying, I don't need a summary).

Warms the cockles of my heart to know our entire economy is leveraged on the success of "features" like this. You can't even minimize it like the actual ribbon bar.

It's for work, so I'm locked in to using Microsoft. Fun times.

Ich soll ein Video erstellen und meine Vorgesetzte meinte im Meeting, in dem mir die Anforderung an besagtes Video vorgestellt wurden, den magischen Satz:

"Ich hab das einfach mal bei Copilot eingekippt."

Immerhin weiß ich nun, weshalb ihr Skript so zusammengewürfelt wirkte und gar nicht zu unseren bisherigen Videos passte. 🫠

Eine Kollegin recherchierte gerade allen Ernstes, ob es stimmt, dass man maximal 900 Punkte im Abitur bekommen kann, indem sie "Abitur 900 Punkte" in Microsoft Copilot schrieb.

Ich kann das alles nicht mehr.

Not Windows 11, actually. I was feeling pretty good about Windows 10, looking back, but now I'm remembering some things less than fondly.

I tried to figure out how to change the default font in #Outlook (being annoyed that I would have to change it in 2 places if doing it manually through File > Options > Mail > Compose messages > Stationery and Fonts for New mail messages and for Replying or forwarding messages)

I asked #MSCopilot

It proposed the #PowerShell command
Set-MailboxMessageConfiguration -Identity $userPrincipalName -FontName $fontname

Turns out that is wrong. Correct is
Set-MailboxMessageConfiguration -Identity $userPrincipalName -DefaultFontName $fontname

While the AI help me to get on the right track, this demonstrates how dangerous (blindly) trusting the AI result is.

If this wouldn't have been easily verifiable (because it was basically a single line of code) and didn't fail it could have caused any serious of problems.

I switched off Copilot in my MS Word, but I've noticed this ominous green dot hovering just to the left of my blank document. I assume if I click on it accidentally, it'll switch on all AI features again, am I right? 🙃
