An interesting editorial in #mBio about #publishing #review articles. Although the pressure of #predatory publishers who bomb us with invitations for writing reviews everyday is turning people away reading reviews altogether, I think that we can build a future where this format is at the core of scientific progress. Helicobacter pylori causes gastric #ulcer leading to #cancer. (800000 deaths/year). Treatment is #antibiotics and a bismuth compound. Pepto-Bismol which treats upset stomach also contains bismuth.

Here, the team show H. pylori blebs out vesicles with bismuth to stay alive in the stomach. Quite an elegant study on defense mechanisms in #bacteria (h/t TWiM)
