Este anillo de Longinus 😍

#evangelion #longinus

But of course you already guessed it:

It's a nice spear with a fascinating history - but unlikely the one of #Longinus. Rather than a Roman #hasta or #pilum there's a Carolingian #Flügellanze hiding underneath those sleeves and the two little "knives" added at some later point.

Only in the 13th century that #HolyLance finally has been linked to the weapon of #Longinus which pierced the side of Christ - so now it's him mentioned by name on the golden sleeve.

"Wait, what #HolyLance?!" you ask? 🤔

Well, yes - *that* #lance of the Roman soldier #Longinus which, according legend and lore, once pierced 🩸 the side of Jesus at the Crucifixion:

Holy Lance | History, Relic, Legend, & Authenticity

Holy Lance, also called Spear of Destiny, a legendary Christian relic that pierced the side of Jesus Christ at the Crucifixion. It was reportedly discovered in June 1098 during the First Crusade at Antioch by Peter Bartholomew, a Christian Crusader, but was discredited.

Encyclopedia Britannica

The year is 1944, #IndianaJones and his colleague Basil infiltrate a Nazi-occupied castle to find the Lance of #Longinus which (alleged- or supposedly) once opened the side of Christ following his crucifixion.

Alas, the artifact turns out … just a replica of the #HolyLance. 🤷🏻‍♂️
