This year we had solar panel arrays installed on our home and garage, to continue our efforts to combat climate change. Because they were activated in July we don't yet know what percentage of our annual electricity consumption will be offset, but it appears that we'll hit 70-75% comfortably.
Even the last two days, as we near the winter solstice (we're in the northern hemisphere, 40.9 degrees north latitude), our arrays generated 16.5kWh each day... of course we used 3-4 times that much since our home heat is generated by air-source heat pumps, but as the days begin to lengthen and temperatures return to something above 0C we'll get back to parity and then go well beyond it for ~7 months of the year. I'm looking forward to having a full year-long cycle of data to analyze in 2024!
