Ridiculous that most people in Learning & Development constantly seek out new fads and gadgets that will supposedly solve the problems they themselves produced.

Do they have no shame?

#LearningBS, Volume 3:

- The idea that #learning needs to #entertain the learners - as expressed by fads like #gamification, VR/AR, explanatory videos, bite-size learning, and most #elearning.

- The idea that learning should be chiefly about knowledge (which only helps with solving complicated problems), and the pursuit of the vague notion of #competence. We should aim at #mastery + #knowledge!

#LearningBS, Volume 2:

- The notion that attention spans are decreasing, and that thus #MicroLearning, #BiteSizeLearning etc. are in order. It's true that #media is changing, but the nature of #knowledge acquisition and disciplined #practice (for achieving #mastery) is not

- The notion that #talent or "being gifted" exists. Such ideas are opposed to #learningscience, and as sticky as belief in gods

#LearningBS, Volume 1:

- The idea that people have "comfort zones." They do not!

- The idea that people can or need to "unlearn". Forgetting is a thing - unlearning is not!

- The idea that "learning styles" exist. Everybody learns somewhat differently, but there are no "visual", "oral" or whatever types!
