I got into some hitherto unseen Hong Kong action theater in anticipation of The Furious, and discovered what I called "this generation's The Gate, except that *every* generation's The Gate should just be...The Gate".

RebeccaAnother slow movie week - only two of these are new!
Mārama (4 stars) - a Māori gothic horror film. It was a slow burn but once it got there it was intense. I thought about it for a long time after watching!
Fréwaka (4 stars) - an Irish folk horror film. Atmospheric and interesting!
Hokum (3 stars) - my dissatisfaction with this one (and its connection to Irish folklore) led me to finding Fréwaka.
CODA (4 stars) - great film about a Deaf family.
