Now I am kinda on the fence for the future #ladybirdbrowser

Not much about the Rust bit, its the AI bit that makes me sit on the fence

Ladybird adopts Rust, with help from AI - Ladybird

We're adopting Rust as our C++ successor language, and using AI agents to accelerate the transition.

@ysaeldev I mean it's not like it's vibe-coded, it's isolated parts that are translated from one language to another and then checked extensively that it works the same, while the whole browser not even being in alpha yet. So low risk and plenty of time to catch any potential problems. IMHO this is one of the good use cases of AI. Or should AI be avoided at all costs for ideological reasons?

@max_lindberg I think we will see how it goes. Everything in general changed once LLMs came into the picture.

Personally I am opposed to AI/gen AI/LLMs, but only when used unethically (ie. to replace developers). This plus all of the downsides when we talk about the environmental effects its having on the planet.

That said, I know those are here to stay, for better or worse.

Edit: Ideally gen AI/LLMs would be self hosted whenever used imo
