I joined an #LICW class on "sending with paddles" earlier this week. It was really eye opening!

When I first started, I just couldn't hack Iambic B. For instance the letter A was completely impossible to send correctly. Came out as R every time.

During the class he called that out: "A is the one character you can't squeeze key. You need to slap it." (Ah Hah!)

I was suprised to find how easy it was to switch from A to B now that I have more sending practice.

Just joined #LICW (Long Island #CW Club), to improve and hopefully find somebody to QSO with. Don't know if it my lousy antennas, the band conditions, or being at the bottom of the US (south FL), but I just can't hear very many stations. "If you can't hear em, you can't work em."

I get spotted if I call CQ, so hopefully when the Club CW Spotter site updates the LICW member list, somebody will hear me that I can hear.

I've updated this guide to include the LICW Challenge calling frequencies found at 14057 and 7057 +/- 5 kHz.

LICW Challenge – The Long Island CW Club Members Challenge

My K1USN Slow Speed Test contacts for the night. I went at a relaxed pace. Most of my contacts were with Long Island CW Club members who get together and help new people out during the SST.

Ianis, YO8YNS just won the Gold metal while setting a new world record in the RUFZ (callsign receiving) Category B with a score of 311,192 points and a max speed of 1126 characters per minute. That is an equivalent of just over 225 WPM.

I sat in the LICW Intro to Sending Class yesterday. One thing they taught us was how to adjust our straight key. Bob WO6W said a good starting point was to set the tension on the key to 100g. I was looking for something in the house that weighed 100 grams. My wife suggested a small potato. The potato in the photo weighed-in at 102 grams.
