As I noted earlier this morning, we saw an excellent production of "The Color Purple" in a 74-seat black box theatre, put on by Chromolume Theatre. It is well worth seeing, if you can get a ticket. Here's the writeup.

Last night (as I posted), the Temple Ahavat Shalom Live Theatre Group went to go see "Jewish for Dinner" at the Santa Monica Playhouse. It was a very funny show -- a bit sitcomish but still funny and with some good questions to consider. It is an expansion of the short film "Jewish for Lunch". Well worth seeing if you're familiar with Jewish culture.

Last night, we saw "All The Villains Are Here", written and performed by Patrick Page, at the BroadStage in Santa Monica. An excellent show, with a deep dive exploration of all the villains in Shakespeare, explored chronologically. We really enjoyed it.

Last night, we saw "The Notebook" @ Broadway In Hollywood / Hollywood Pantages Theatre . For a show about memory and forgetting, it was pleasant and weepy and lovely and ... forgettable. You'll enjoy it while experiences, but come out more sad at the memory loss, not remembering any songs, just the basics of the story. Wonderful performance that are, luckily, quite memorable.

Our last live theatre of 2025: "Stereophonic" at Broadway In Hollywood / Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Was it the train wreck that some attendees commented that it was? Did we leave at intermission? Did we end up liking the show? You'll have to read the writeup to find out.

Last night, we saw "A Beautiful Noise" at Broadway In Hollywood / Hollywood Pantages Theatre. A very well done jukebox music, especially great if you love Neil Diamond. Nick Fradiani was wonderful as Neil Diamond-Then. Well worth seeing.

Yesterday afternoon, I saw Parade at Center Theatre Group / Ahmanson Theatre. Excellent production. Given the importance of the message, everyone should go see this.

Last night, we saw "A Doll's House, Part 2" at Pasadena Playhouse. An interesting production and commentary on marriage. I'm not sure I agree with its conclusions, and it had some disconcerting aspects to its staging. Still, it was interesting and worth seeing. It would be nice to have this done in repertory with the Ibsen A Doll's House to provide more context.

Last night, we saw "44: The Musical" at Center Theatre Group/Kirk Douglas Theatre, an unauthorized and unsanctioned musical about Obama's first term. Aside from the music being too loud and obscuring the lyrics, it was funny at points, stupid at points, and somewhat enjoyable. It is part of the particular sub-genre of political satire musicals, which never really have a long shelf life, but are fun at the time.
