Yesterday, we saw "Elegies", presented by Chromolume Theatre as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Great show, great performances. There are two performances left.

Last night, while everyone else was watching the Tony Awards, we were at Ebony Repertory Theatre seeing "Ain't Misbehavin'" (which I originally saw back in 1980 at the Aquarius Theatre with the original cast, and then later in 2008 at 5-Star Theatricals). ERT's production was very good, with one of the cast members from the 5-Star/Cabrillo production. It seemed a bit more disconnected from the personification of Fats Waller in the original, and the audience members needed to learn that light-emitting devices need to be turned off and stay off.

Last night, we saw Hell's Kitchen (Hell's Kitchen: A New Musical On Broadway) at Broadway In Hollywood / Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Interesting show, especially for those that like Alicia Keys. Last night, we saaw The Sound of Music on Tour at Broadway In Hollywood. Yes, a chestnut, but an extremely well done chestnut with wonderful performances from Cayleigh Capaldi and Kevin Earley (whom we have been following since Sheri-Lynn Maeda introduced us back in 2006; I swear he must have a mirror in his closet). Well worth seeing.

Saturday evening we saw Fallstaff at LA Opera. I was busy doing the first part of the ballot analysis, so I didn't get the writeup done until this morning. Last night, we saw "Real Women Have Curves" at Casa 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights. Excellent production, and a wonderful story of family, friendship, struggle, and real life immigrants. Go see it (and I hope a local playhouse will opt to produce the recent Broadway musical version, as it isn't going on tour (to my knowledge)).
