This picture shows a batch of wool that I tried something I'd seen on YouTube which involved putting the wool in a shallow basin and spraying it with a power hose. I did this, then put the wool in bags in the washing machine and ran it on the hand wash setting, cold water, without interfering in the cycle. What came out was fairly clean but somewhat matted like the first and I think it will be hard to work with. #kildareyarns #wool #spinningwool #fiberarts #cleaningwool #SpinningYarn #knitting #crochet #weaving
The first batch I did I soaked in the washing machine on Hand Wash setting with a little vinegar. Then I ran it through the rest of the cycle, and followed with a wash using Dawn.
The result was wool that was clean, white, and surprisingly free of debris. It was somewhat matted though - probably due to having been agitated twice. I was able to work most of out with a comb though. #SpinningYarn #wool #fiberarts #kildareyarns #idaho #Boise #knitting #crochet
I'm experimenting with washing my wool fleece in cold water in my washing machine, which has a Hand Wash cycle. I put 52g of wool in separate mesh bags, and added a squirt of Dawn. Before that, I did a vinegar pre-wash with an extended soak. I'll let you know how it turns out.
