#SheepOfMastodon #spinningwool
3 very fine fleeced solid moorit lambs born last night. Breeding program to develop a flock of multi colored fine fleeced sheep from BFL x Icelandic crosses progressing. These will be heaven to spin.
After about three weeks of spinning fine merino, I’m very much enjoying this much more rustic tweed spin.
(Roving is Shaniko Tweed from Cashmere & Coconuts, I *think* the autumn rainbow colorway?)
Yesterday I spent a morning learning a technique that interests me as a knitter who loves local fibres: spinning wool. It was humbling, each step requiring great dexterity and a lot of coordination. It was also interesting to finally find my balance by trying out different spinning wheels. The one that suits me best was unknown to me (Wollknoll Merino), but it's gentle on my weak knees. It has the advantage of being cheaper, made of solid wood and without plastic.
