The claim that we need the state to protect us against abusers is a popular and superficial anti-anarchism "gotcha". In reality, as anarchists know, the state jealously guards its monopoly on legitimate violence by *preventing* us from defending ourselves and our families against abuse. Here's an all too typical story about a Colorado mother who was jailed for defying a court order to "reconcile" her children with their father, a former cop who is facing charges of sexually abusing three of his daughters.

Sharing a crowdfunding request for Ky Peterson, a Black trans man who was incarcerated for killing his rapist in self-defense. When he was incarcerated everyone was bringing up his name and story to prove a political point, but now that he's out it's like everyone's completely forgotten about him. And he's been struggling to make ends meet FOR YEARS.
