I'm having an odd issue in the latest version of #JAWSForWindows whereby when I execute Jaws Key plus f11 and atempt to activate items in the system tray they're not activating. It's just landing me back on my desktop. What's broken and who broke it? Did I do it?
This is quite the mystery. Although I muted my home timeline and my sent timeline in #FastSM when it's not in focus every once in a while I'll hear one of its sounders but I have no clue from where it's coming or what it's indicating. It's also interesting to me that when employing the keystroke for mute in the main window of the application #JawsForWindows will verbalize the state of being muted or unmuted but when I interact with the corresponding menu entry in the timeline menu it does not. #NVDA tries its best to verbalize the state of the menu entry but seems to cut itself off. But surprisingly, #Narrator wins this screen reader showdown as it will verbalize the state of the menu entry after having been acted upon. But none of the 3 screen readers reports the state when merely scrolling through the menu. I hope that made sense. #FastSM
Power users of pronunciation dictionaries, I have a pretty specific situation here. The person I'm proofing for uses actual space characters rather than tabs at the beginnings of his paragraphs, this results in having runs reported by text analyzer every time I get to a new paragraph. Having JAWS speak character count works, but this usually means seeing the space count at the beginning of each paragraph twice unless I turn off indentation indication. Yet, I need indentation indication to report justification levels such as centered or whether or not text is justified. I mark the ends of my sentences with one space. He marks them with two. is there a way I can make one dictionary entry that will allow me to set a sound to play when there are two spaces after colons or other other punctuation marks that normally end sentences? Or do I have to create an entry for every one of these? Just creating one for two spaces doesn't work because it gets triggered when two or more spaces in a row are encountered, so the three spaces my client uses for paragraph starters gets indicated... and we're back to square one. #JAWSForWindows users, Anyone figured out how to get the usual alt+number shortcuts working properly in the new Outlook? Any help appreciated. Thanks. PS: please don’t tell me to use classic outlook. #Blind #ScreenReader #BlindMasto #BlindMastodon #BlindFedi @mastoblind
Now isn't this most intriguing, when I search for this emoji and put it in my own post #JawsForWindows reads it as 😁 but if I’m looking at the notification that someone liked my post containing such speech output renders it as smiling face with open mouth and smiling eyes. Isn’t that peculiar how the same emoji in 2 different contexts is spoken differently by the same screen reader. #It’sAMystery
What on the earth? When did this manifest? In #GoogleChrome Browser when adding a bookmark using #JawsForWindows I'm unable to arrow up and down through bookmark folders to place the new one I'm trying to add.
Well, seems as though I'm kind of right. Now the annual license is actually cheaper than the software maintenance agreement. Mercifully I don't have to do anything to address this today as I'm good through 2026 but rest assured I'll be watching for discounts during convention season. Still, I'm curious what my smart friends who use #JawsForWindows are doing in light of this, sticking with software maintenance agreement upgrades for as long as they last or switching to the annual license. Nothing like making things as confusing as humanly possible. #NotTheBestLook @freedomscientific
To my friends who use #JawsForWindows curious if anyone's encountered this. In the last couple of weeks when I click on a desktop icon to open a folder instead of opening that folder sometimes all Jaws will report is desktop and I won't be or won't seem to be in an area in which I can do much of anything. What is the cause or meaning of this thing?
Oh, just got an alert there's a new #JAWSForWindows update today. I wonder if anyone's installed it yet. Not saying it came out today just that's when the update popped up and said hello to little me.
What is this madness that now makes #JawsForWindows verbalize "start button off, start button off" when launching a program or opening a file or folder
