Die Forystufé sind eine besondere Untergruppe innerhalb der isländischen Schafrasse und kommen hauptsächlich im Nordosten Islands vor. Sie zeichnen sich durch ihren ausgeprägten Führungsinstinkt aus, mit dem sie die Herde sicher auch durch schwieriges Gelände leiten. Ihre Rolle geht über die eines gewöhnlichen Nutztieres hinaus – sie fungieren als unverzichtbare Wegweiser. Auch als „Leader Sheep“ bekannt, vereinen sie Robustheit mit hoher Intelligenz und einem ausgeglichenen Wesen. Damit sind sie ein wertvoller Bestandteil der traditionellen isländischen Landwirtschaft.
