Gaurav from our lab talked about the utility (& complexities) of using Acoustic Indices to infer about patterns of diversity at #IBAC2023 at Sapporo Japan yesterday.

Long story cut short: they are not completely useless but are unlikely to replace manual surveys in their current state. I do hope that someday we can have automated surveys that are reliable. #Bioacoustics is certainly suited for it. I said that 15 yrs ago and I still say so. The progress in this field in 15 yrs has been massive.
