A whooper swan at Hogganfield Loch in the east of Glasgow. Distinguishable from the resident mute swans by their bright yellow beaks (mute swans have orange ones), these are winter visitors which arrive here each autumn from Iceland and other far-flung places, and depart again the following spring.

A colony of mining bees at Hogganfield Loch in the east of Gladgow. These solitary bees dig nests into sandy soil, creating these distinctive piles of excavated sand on the surface. You can see one of the bees itself in the bottom left of the picture.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland with my #RamblersScotland group this morning. Our route took us around #HogganfieldLoch in #Millerston #Glasgow. Having done most of the circuit in a blizzard, the snow stopped and patches of blue sky appeared. #Scotland, eh?
