Hadn't got round to announcing this yet - new paper out! In 'Calculated Actions: How Game Code Makes Arguments About The Past' I discuss the ways that the programmatic parts of games encode ideas about human history and how it works, with a wide array of examples.

Hope the ideas/concepts are useful to people, thoughts welcome as always if you have a chance to read it :)

My PhD thesis 'Hauntological Videogame Form: Nostalgia and a "High Technology" Medium' is now publicly available. In other words, it is a free book examining what is happening to contemporary cultural media form (primarily, but not exclusively, through the lens of videogames).

Here is another request for help: I am currently researching the function of history in computer games. I am looking into the question of why we find historical settings attractive at all and am currently looking for general texts on the question of why we are interested in history at all. #History #HistoricalGameStudies
Since replaying Battlefield V, the final "war story" has been on mind due to how it depicts the final days of the European campaign of WW2. I have an upcoming session and wanted to explore something a little bit different with my students. Hopefully this case study provides an interesting insight into ethical gameplay (and a little bit on #HistoricalGameStudies even if I don't mention it in this text).
