“Queen of Heaven” - Gluten-free Oats & Honey Soap
by Raven's Dream Maine
- 198 grams NaOH (Food-grade lye)
- 12.8 oz (362.9 g) distilled water
- 1lb olive oi
- 3.5 oz (99.2g) Almond, Avocado & Kukui nut oils (0.7 oz Almond, 1.5 oz Avocado, 1.3 oz Kukui) -- Almond and Avocado can be used without the Kukui -- just split the amount in half -- 1.75 oz of each)
- 1 lb coconut oil
- 14 oz palm oil
- 1.5 oz beeswax (melted)
- 1/2 cup gluten-free oats (one can grind the oats or leave them whole, depending on what texture one desires with the soap)
- 6.4 ounces buttermilk (heated)
- 10 teaspoons honey
Once fats and lye are close to desired temperature, gently heat buttermilk to same temperature (100 degrees F).
Whisk quickly and firmly with a stainless-steel whisk, add buttermilk to lye solution. Once it is well blended, immediately begin pouring the lye/milk mixture to the melted fats and oils.
NOTE - A bar mixer is crucial while blending the mixture! Otherwise, the soap won't last as long! (That goes for any cold processed soap.)
At trace, incorporate honey and oatmeal, blending quickly to avoid overly thickened soap.
I would recommend using a 5 lb wooden mold, or two 3-lb ones, and not fancy molds.
