It's pretty cool to see Apple keep the #GeniusBar at Apple Stores. One of the last few vestiges from when Steve was in charge. They also kept the logo all this time!
These are from the new Apple Sainte-Catherine store in Montreal.

My brand-new #AirPods Pro 3’s were having charging troubles I couldn’t resolve on my own, so I made a #GeniusBar appointment at my local #AppleStore (Briarwood Mall, Ann Arbor). No trouble getting the time or day I wanted. No trouble on arrival. I was assigned a Genius named D'Air (spelling may be incorrect). I was actually insensitive (accidentally) about his name and I’m still kicking myself about that. He was deserving of respect and I let him down there, and also I value kindness in myself and I let us **both** down there (and if anyone should know better about names, it’s me). I apologized immediately (well, as soon as I understood), but I remain disappointed in myself. Especially since he was also incredibly helpful: solving not just one problem, but three! AirPods fixed (though they had to be sent out); critical notifications enabled for my continuous glucose monitor; and he helped me understand how I will deal with my iPhone battery in my 15 Pro Max as it ages.
He was knowledgeable, competent, helpful, and kind, even when I fucked up. He solved all my problems. I hope he gets better treatment from others, and I’m sorry he didn’t get it from me.
Just discovered that Apple’s Genius Bar for making an appt w/ the #GeniusBar is called the “Apple Support” app. No other way I cd find to make an appt. Having a specific app just for troubleshooting implies you have a product that is lousy &/or difficult to use. Since the iPhone is neither, I guess the AS app is just another instance of a hurdle thrown up between the customer and human assistance.
My curmudgeonly take.
@drdrang @siracusa Call it #hearsay, but a friend shared his #frustrating #experience with a 1 y/o #MacBook Air. The #SSD failed mid-video edit, so he went to the #AppleStore in #NYC. At the #GeniusBar, the tech said (paraphrased): “If you came yesterday, your #warranty would cover it. Today it’s $700. Better to buy a new one.”
Hard to square with all those stories of happy #Apple #customers who were #overjoyed when the company went the extra mile to keep them #SatisfiedCustomer
Wednesday.
A terrible night's sleep, the good wife had a migraine after work, so nobody was very content.
Meanwhile, I've gone from having a single planned outing next week for work to going to Liverpool at the weekend, Birmingham on Monday and London on Thursday.
Friday: Liverpool is a volunteer trip to show refreshable Braille to a primary school student. I'm going alone, so maybe some reading time on the train! And I get to expense my travel. Was only about £30 return on the train, which for about 240 miles round-trip seems pretty reasonable to me!
Monday: Birmingham is to get a phone battery replaced in the work iPhone, very important. Not sure how easy I'll find it navigating New Street without any sighted help, but I'll give it a go I suppose: what's the worst that can happen? Google maps wants me to walk a couple of hundred feet. I have legs, I can speak up and ask for help if I need it. I am not going to refuse to get it done just because nobody I know can accompany me. #BigBoyPants time. Anyone have experience of #Apple's #GeniusBar if you are #blind, by any chance?
Thursday: It's Global Accessibility Awareness Day, and work are putting on a to-do. In reality I don't think I have much to do but stand around looking blind and answer the odd question.
WeWalk, Microsoft, Be My Eyes etc are all turning up, so it'll be a bit of schmoozing but sadly no boozing.
6AM train and I'll have to tube it from Paddington, which I always enjoy. The office is literally across the road from Aldgate East, so no worries at all on the navigation front there - I enjoy feeling like a ping pong ball zipping around the underground.

Visited an #AppleStore today. It’s the first time in a few years I’ve been to one.
From the store layout, I came away with the impression that in the coming years, the desktop #Mac 🖥️ will be subsumed by #AppleVisionPro 🥽. Perhaps, even the #MacBook 💻 will be a thing of the past.
The #GeniusBar is no more. Sad. Times change.
