The new border wall in San Rafael Valley, Arizona. No one I talk to seems to know that it is being built again. I guess it's just not newsworthy at this point?
30 feet above the ground, with 6 feet of concrete underground. Each of the posts, called "bollards", are filled with concrete. All of this new 27 miles of wall is painted black because Trump thinks it will get hot and therefore be unclimbable.
Fact check: most people get through the wall by cutting it with a cheap cordless grinder and those who climb over do so at night. This administration is beyond stupid.
Went back to the San Rafael Valley in Arizona today, where they are building 27 miles of new border wall for no good fucking reason. I think I got a few of the shots I wanted, plus bonus thunderstorms in the afternoon. Have to process the shots from my DSLR, but here's a phone snap rainbow at sunset.
Another photographer and I went out today to survey the damage and document what we saw. I particularly like the composition provided by this ancient juniper tree and the gap in the fence. This is a phone snap, but I shot a lot of this tree with my big camera.

Went out on a water drop yesterday, leaving supplies for migrants in the desert and wrote a short blog post about it.
With all the news about asylum seekers at the border, it's important to remember that those not eligible for asylum still attempt to cross the 50-70 miles of dangerous Arizona desert. Hundreds of human remains are found here each year.

Joel (right) and another volunteer with the Tucson-based group Humane Borders hoist a flag to mark a water barrel, one of six placed at the request of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument officials on May 13th, 2023. These were placed along the border wall where migrants have been crossing in the last week.
Humane Borders has a working relationship with the National Park Service to place and maintain these barrels, though the NPS usually only grudgingly allows it. In this case, with the sudden influx of migrants and the hot weather, NPS approached Humane Borders and requested the tanks.
The blue flags also have bright LEDs so people in need can find the tanks at night.
Yesterday, May 14th, Joel was doing similar work near Arivaca, AZ, far east of here and was harassed by racist vigilantes who have been using the hype about the end of Title 42 as a recruiting tool.
