Desert hike and water drop today. It was as much an exploratory trip as anything. Figuring out where to most efficiently leave water jugs is always a puzzle. One established drop on an obvious trail had shown zero use since it was placed in January. Another experimental-site drop had also shown zero use. And then we explored some new areas looking for possible migrant routes through the desert, but found nothing definitive.

Reposting from No More Deaths | No Más Muertes from non-fediverse social media yesterday:

"BREAKING: Border Patrol abandons asylum seekers in winter storm, threatens aid workers with arrest.

Last night, volunteers evacuated 150 people from the freezing cold east of Sasabe, Arizona and set up food & tarps for another 150 still stranded in the mountains."

Went out on a water drop yesterday, leaving supplies for migrants in the desert and wrote a short blog post about it.

With all the news about asylum seekers at the border, it's important to remember that those not eligible for asylum still attempt to cross the 50-70 miles of dangerous Arizona desert. Hundreds of human remains are found here each year.
