‘Tremendous potential’: New program offers support and resources to youth in crisis
Providing crisis services to Acadiana residents has been an uphill battle. A new system of crisis response and services shows promise — at least for kids.LCG to host public meeting on Downtown drainage planning
Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) will host a public meeting on drainage in Downtown and the surrounding area on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Public Library-Main Branch.
At the meeting, LCG officials will focus on opportunities for increased drainage capacity along Johnston Street and how that work will impact the surrounding area, including the UL campus and Freetown neighborhoods.
Published:April 304:36 pm Downtown flooded again despite drainage fixes — what happened?Following a flash flood that inundated businesses downtown in 2021, LCG promised major improvements. Last week, they flooded again.
Recent heavy rain events have brought increased strain and attention to Lafayette’s aging drainage systems at the core of the city, including standing water in Downtown storefronts in April.
According to LCG, these challenges have pushed the city to take a deeper look at how to build better and more resilient drainage infrastructure, especially alongside already planned improvement projects like Johnston Street.
“It’s critical that our infrastructure, especially drainage, is built to protect the commercial and residential demands for decades to come. This project gives us the opportunity to do just that,” said M-P Monique B. Boulet.
Anyone unable to attend the event in person can report drainage concerns by calling 311 or visiting 311lafayette.services online.
