So I was approached via DM because I mentioned #headTracking support for #freespace on Linux PC a while ago. I threw what I have here - and it is rather crude. If anyone wants to give it a try be my guest: https://github.com/bekopharm/fs2open.github.com/tree/feature/facetracknoir

I do not have the capacity to make this nice e.g. as an option. If someone wants to cherry pick the changes and make something of it I'd be more than happy. There's really not much to it.

Would still like to hear if this works for someone else than MyMachine.

Surprisingly, your browser's cache (including history) can take up quite a bit of space (in gigabytes) if you browse media-heavy websites (including photos). Just cleared mine and freed up well over a few gigabytes. #cache #browser #clearout #cleaning #diskspace #freespace

I wonder if anybody ever made fancy shadertastic replacement assets for #Descent 1 and 2?

Modders have done a fantastic job with #FreeSpace, with high-detail models for every ship in the game, but from what I can see, Descent looks pretty much the same as it did 30 years ago.

How old is considered "retro"?

Off the cuff, I have enjoyed the #Descent trilogy (and it's more modern successor #Overload), Descent: #Freespace, and Thief 3: Deadly Shadows

I'm reminded of when some modders made some sweet high-resolution FMVs for #FreeSpace.

I think they used a modern video format, though, not the old Interplay MVE format that the original game used. Modders integrated #ffmpeg into the engine, so it can play FMVs in basically any format.
